Diallel analysis and heterosis components in paprika peppers Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Lasmar,André; Maluf,Wilson Roberto; Ticona-Benavente,César Augusto; Nogueira,Douglas William; Nogueira,Danilo Gustavo.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to quantify and assess the components of heterosis in paprika hybrids related to yield, capsanten pigment content (estimated as ASTA degrees) and resistance to Phytophthora capsici, and to identify parental lines with high general combining ability (GCA) to be used in future breeding programmes and/or to obtain new hybrids. Fifteen hybrids were obtained through a complete diallel cross (reciprocal hybrids excluded) among six proprietary paprika breeding lines from HortiAgro Sementes S.A., four of which originally introduced from Peru (P1=PIM 032-03; P2=PIM 033-11; P3=PIM 034-19; P4=PIM 035-01) and two from the U.S.A. (P5=PIM 036-08; P6=PIM 037-18). Epistatic gene action was involved in the expression of heterosis for...

Heterosis for yield contributing head traits in cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Kibar,Beyhan; Karaağaç,Onur; Kar,Hayati.
The present investigation was carried out to study the direction and magnitude of heterosis in twenty-four hybrids for yield contributing head traits in cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.). A field experiment was conducted during the cabbage growing season of 2011-2012 at the Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute, Samsun, Turkey. Hybrids and parents were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications. Measurements were performed for head weight, head diameter and head length to estimate mid parent and better parent heterosis in each hybrid. The direction and magnitude of mid parent and better parent heterosis among hybrids for all the head traits was found to be highly variable. The maximum and significant heterosis in...

Lombardi,Gabrielle Maria Romeiro; Navegantes,Patricia Cardoso Andrade; Pereira,Carlos Henrique; Fonseca,Jales Mendes Oliveira; Parrella,Rafael Augusto da Costa; Castro,Fernanda Maria Rodrigues; Rocha,Mara Jane da; Ornelas,Daniela Oliveira; Bruzi,Adriano Teodoro; Nunes,José Airton Rodrigues.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the potential per se of male-sterile and fertility-restorer lines of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), as well as to detail the heterosis manifested for some traits directly or indirectly related to ethanol production, accumulation rate, and predictability. Evaluations were performed for 20 genotypes, of which 4 are fertility-restorer lines (R), 3 are male-sterile lines (A), and 12 are experimental hybrids (H) resulting from the partial diallel cross between lines A and R, besides a commercial hybrid CV198 used as a check, in four harvest seasons. The experiments were carried out in the municipalities of Lavras and Sete Lagoas, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The measured traits were plant height,...

HETEROTIC ESTIMATION AND ADAPTABILITY OF TOMATO HYBRIDS FOR FRUIT YIELD AND ITS RELATED TRAITS IN PAKISTAN. 196
Javed, Ahsan; Akram, Atif; Tabassum, Muhammad Ijaz; Ahmad, Nadeem; Sarwar, Muhammad; Atif, Muhammad Jawaad.
Current study is emphasizing on the estimation of heterosis for different yield attributing traits and adaptability of tomato hybrids. It was performed in the research area of VCRP, HRI, NARC Islamabad during 2018-2019. Crossing was completed among six parents followed by line × tester. The analyzed data depicted significant differences (P ≤ 0.01) among all the characters.Due to desirable high negative heterotic values hybrids Peto-86 × Nagina and Riograndi × Roma were found suitable for breeding early maturing hybrids. For plant height maximum positive heterosis was observed in Riograndi × Nagina, for no. of cluster/plant in Naqeeb × Roma, for traits like flower cluster-1, fruit cluster-1, fruit length & width and single fruit weight in Naqeeb ×...

Micropropagation of an elite F1 watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) hybrid from the shoot tip of field grown plants BABT
Khalekuzzaman,Mohammad; Khatun,Marufa; Rashid,Mohammad Harunur; Sheikh,Mominul Islam; Sharmin,Shamima Akhtar; Alam,Iftekhar.
The aim of this work was to develop a protocol for rapid micropropagation of an elite F1 hybrid watermelon cultivar using shoot tip of field-grown plants. Maximum frequency (73%) of shoot tip showed growth response in MS medium supplemented with 5 mg l-1 benzyl adenine (BA) and 0.1 mg l-1 indole-3 acetic acid (IAA). Upon transfer to cytokinin-enriched medium, the cultures produced multiple shoots and 2.0 mg l-1 BA was optimum in this respect. Addition of gibberellic acid (GA3) in the multiplication medium resulted in better growth of shoots. Rooting rate was 100% when shoots were obtained from second subculture were cultured in medium with 1.0 mg l-1 indole-3 butyric acid (IBA). The shoots produced more roots with increasing number of subcultures. About...
